The Paramount Fon of Mankon has joined his ancestors. He died on may 21st at the age of 97 after battling with a brief illness. As a Prince, born with a leopard skin, he rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most highly educated members of his tribe, in pre independence days. He was equally one of the traditional rulers who fought to resolve the Anglophone Crises as he frequently denounced the gruesome killings calling for unity in the country.
Educational Life
He attended the Aggrey Memorial College Arochuku in Eastern Nigeria from 1945-1950, where he obtained the senior Cambridge Secondary School Certificate, He later enrolled in the University College of Ibadan, where he graduated with a diploma in Agriculture in 1953. He was later on enthroned as twentieth King of Mankon in 1959.
Political Career
During his ruin as King, he insisted that Mankon has been sidelined in politics so decided involve himself actively in politics and in 1990, He was appointed the first National Vice President of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement. He equally worked closely with President Paul Biya as he accompanied him to New Zealand and Auckland when Cameroon was admitted into the Common Wealth of Nations.
Fon Angwafor has about five Medal Awards from the Government of Cameroon. He was equally given an award from Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II for his interest in Peace and Education. He equally worked hard in resolving the Anglophone crises rocking the two English speaking Regions as he frequently denounced the gruesome killings calling on French Cameroon Military to arrest any individual trying to destabilize the Country.
He insisted during his ruin that, he will never support the return of of the pre 1961 status of the two former UN Mandated Territories of French Cameroon and British Cameroon. He vowed to hand over a united Cameroon to the next ruler, as he handed British Southern Cameroon to Ahidjo and French Cameroon in 1961.He authored several books, in one of his books titled from Royalty and politics, he relates his life from colonial era to when he was appointed Fon of Mankon.
Social Life
He was an active member of various associations, had several wives and children. In the days ahead, one of his kids will succeed him as he succeeded his father when he died at the age of 59.
