A tragic road accident has claimed at least 15 lives and left several others injured in Cameroon. The accident occurred on the Garoua Boulai-Ngaoundere highway, which connects the east and Adamawa regions of the country.
Cause of the Accident.
According to the divisional officer for Garoua Boulai, Jean Patrick Abena, the accident was caused by a 70-seater transport bus belonging to Touristic Express, an inter-urban travel agency, which lost control and somersaulted several times. The bus was traveling from Douala and was destined for the Northern Region. The divisional officer for Garoua Boulai, also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that the authorities are doing everything possible to provide medical care to the injured.
He also highlighted the importance of road safety, saying “We appeal to road users to respect traffic rules and regulations to prevent such accidents. We will continue to monitor and enforce safety measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the futurinjured
injured victims.
Injuries and Fatalities.
The wounded have been rushed to hospitals in the surrounding areas. Most of the injured were transported to the Garoua-Boulai district hospital and the Norwegian health center, as the Garoua-Boulai mortuary could only accommodate five corpses. The others were taken to the Bertoua regional hospital mortuary. Investigations are ongoing to identify the 15 deaths.
