Some three Anglophone Cameroonians in the Diaspora who have been important players in the conflict since the crisis began in 2016 have been arrested.
The US Citizens of Cameroonian Origin by name, Claude Nchi, Francis Chenyi and Lah Nestor were arrested and appeared in court on charges of conspiracy to providing material or resources for the kidnap of person’s and the use of weapons of mass destruction in a foreign country. They went further to kidnap Civilians in Cameroon and hold them for ransom.
” The defendants authored a document that included list of expenditures related to the kidnapping of Cardinal Christian Tumi and of a Cameroonian traditional leader, Sehm Mbinglo II on Nov 5th 2020″. The press release stated.
According to the press release from the United States Department of Justice, the accused equally raised about $350,000 from donors in the US and Europe, to purchase weapons and explosive materials to be used in attacks against civilians and security forces in Cameroon.
While investigations have been opened, the trio if guilty will face Up To 20 years in prison
