The Minister of Public Health Dr Manaouda Malachie, has represented the Head of State in the inauguration of the world’s largest purpose-built hospital ship in Dakar Senegal, the Global Mercy.
Being one of its kind in Africa, the new hospital ship,” Global Mercy” is 174 maters long, 28.6 maters wide and covers a surface area of about 7000 squares meters.it has 6 operating clinics, a dental, eye clinic and can accommodate 950 people.
During the inauguration ceremony, Macky Sall Senegal’s President, saluted the efforts of the Heads of State.
“We Heads of State present this day, have adopted the Dakar declaration which is the result of the meticulous work of our Ministers and experts on access to surgical obstetric and anesthetic care. As President in office of the for the African Union, I commit to bring the Dakar declaration to summit of Heads of States and African Governments.”
The Heads of State and Ministers from some African Countries on board the Global Mercy during the inauguration ceremony, drew plans on how to improve on surgical care in some African Countries by 2030, given that Africa still lacks access to safe surgery.

Health Ministers presence during the inauguration ceremony is an indication that the country has been partnering with mercy ships. They arrived Country since 2017 and has carried out a great number of surgical operations. They renovated the training site at laquintinie hospital in Douala, and provided free medical capacity building programs to volunteers.
