After the death of the Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona at the age of 60 years in November 2020 due to a heart attack in Buenos Aires Argentina as per the report of his medical staff comprised of eight medical Personnel, many were left dumfounded on the circumstance surrounding his Death.
Maradona’s Prosecutors were forced to open an Investigation into the nurses and doctors that were involved in his care few days after his death. Although the footballer had undergone a surgery on brain blood clot a month earlier, He was said to be already recovering from home according to his close family members.
Even before the release of the report of the investigation, many believed it was a homicide. Amongst those that believed it was a homicide was Maury Beaudry a lawyer to one of Maradona’s sons and the two of Maradona’s daughters who filed a complaint about the circumstance surrounding the death of their father.
The Medical Staff in charge of Maradona on the other hand confirmed on a press conference back in 2020 to have done all within their reach to save the life of the footballer but destiny decided otherwise and have completely denied any responsibility for his death.
This didn’t stop the panel of experts appointed to investigate the care given to the international football icon during his last moments of suffering in proceeding with their investigation. Upon completing their Investigation last year, the report claims Maradona’s medical team acted in an “inappropriate, deficient and reckless manner” and according to the court ruling the footballer “would have had a better chance of survival” with adequate treatment in an appropriate medical facility.
Although the final date of the trail is yet to be fixed, it is feared that those facing charges may hold a sentence of 8 up to 25 years of prison as per the Argentina’s Penal Code. They will be tried on the basis of homicide. The eight medical staff facing charges is comprised of Maradona’s neurosurgeon and personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, a psychiatrist and psychologist, two doctors, two nurses and their boss.
