According to German officials, artifacts that were raided in Africa during colonial rule will be returned to the various owners. These artifacts include:
- The shell-studded statue of the mother goddess Ngonnso’ bearing a great spiritual significance, stolen from the Nso People (North west Regions of Cameroon) and
- 23 other artifacts, including jewelry, tools and fashion items stolen from the other colonies.
Countries concerned with this action by The Berlin-based Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation who is in charge of managing many museums in the German Capital city includes:
- Namibia,
- Tanzania and
- Cameroon.
Hermann Parzinger, the foundation’s president (Berlin-based Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) is totally in accordance with this gesture and precise their motives for returning these artifacts
“The special significance – in particular spiritual – of an artefact for the community it originated from may also justify return,” he said.
