The Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, has Inaugurated the National Road number 17A from Mengong to Sangmelima In the South Region.
The 66 billion CFA FRS, project financed by the public Investment budget of Cameroon will ease transportation between the two Towns in Ebolowa.
While opening the lane, public works Minister said the road has been constructed to last at least 15 years. Describing the new road as a “strategically important route”, the minister said it would also enable faster emergency service response times.
“Car users, freight and public transport services along this route will benefit from shorter, safer and more reliable journey times,” He added.
He acknowledged the impact of construction work on residents, landowners, businesses and road users but said delivering improvements to road infrastructure “cannot be done without causing significant disruption”.
“I’m sure at times this has been very frustrating, particularly for those living in the vicinity of the works, so I want to thank the local community for their co-operation and understanding over the past years,” he said.
“I hope that everyone will see the wider benefits this road is now providing.” The Minister concluded.
Constructed with the assistance of Arab contractors, city dwellers heaved a sigh of relief following the newly constructed lane.
