The Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi says the bridge linking Cameroon to Nigeria will be inaugurated on November 5th. He was speaking during a meeting he chaired on October 19th with some elites from the South West Region.
The 408km infrastructure two lane bridge over the cross river,at the Cameroon Nigeria border was completed about a year ago in Eyumodjok a locality in the South West Region business in Cameroon reported.
The bridge according to CNCC , required an investment of 21 billion CFA and was provided by Cameroon and Nigeria with support from the African Development Bank and the European Union. According to the Ministry of Public Works, the bridge and its access roads form part of the transport facilitation programme on the Bamenda-Mamfe-Abakaliki-Enugu corridor, which is part of the Lagos-Mombassa Trans-African highway.
The bridge over the cross river will bring closer two brotherly countries, Nigeria and Cameroon in the aftermath of the Greentree Agreement especially as trade volume between the two countries has dropped by 81% from CFA 15.6 billion to CFA 2.9 billion in 2015-19 due to the crisis rocking the two Regions.
