The poor weather in the center Region is having devastating effects on some city dwellers.Recently,a tornado destroyed about 74 homes in Mbangasina a locality in the Center Region. Some rescue officials and authorities who visited the scene said,several person’s have been left homeless and while power links have been cut to many homes.
The Mayor of Mbangasina,Bernard Mboene who visited the locality reported that homes were destroyed by the storm.
He could not give immediate details of the extent of damage or injuries.
According to several news sources,few person’s have been rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Some inhabitants of that locality say they are completely homeless and need urgent help.
“Some homes were
utterly destroyed, some were badly damaged, while others were barely touched by a tornado that hit Mbangasina.We need help as majority of our properties have been swept by the wind.
“Our community is destroyed. In five seconds. That is all it took,” said Ashely Thomas, a teacher who is eight months pregnant.
Like so many others in this neighborhood, she is in disbelief.
“We are so lucky,” she said.
Images of homes destroyed by the Tornado has been circulating in various social media platforms and homes are unrecognizable and look like a bomb went off inside. Families say all they could do is seek shelter in their basements and hope for the best.
But looking at other properties, there is no evidence of a storm until you look across the street or next door.
This is more than just about property damage but for some this tornado took everything. Many are searching the debris hoping to salvage something from the place they once called home.
“I was just collecting, walking around collecting photos that we had and just trying to see what we can get,” said Cyndie a student.
Tornadoes are amongst the most violent storms on earth,with the potential to cause very serious damage.City dwellers have however been warned to pay attention to the weather.
