Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has banned overseas travel to Civil servants and Members of Parliament in Uganda. This move is intended to trim wasteful expenditure and save money for other priority sectors. The President made the announcement after he learnt that the Country’s economy is failing, and the Ugandan petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK), the only government owned institute for oil and gas sector does not have enough funding.
“Tell the civil servants, the MP’s and all politicians to stop travelling abroad. Money is wasted on external travels; this is really poor planning.” He added.
He equally reiterated his Commitment to make the Kigumba petroleum Institute one of the best.
” Therefore, even if we are to spend USD 50 million, 60 or even USD100 million to make Kigumba Petroleum Institute a world-class training center, we shall do it. We have the money. Yes, we have got very many needs, some want money to eat. We can constrain that. We can say stop travelling.” He said.
The Ugandan President however has as aim produce oil by 2025 and the only way to do so is by urging civil servants, MPs to travel out only if necessary so they can save money to develop the Country.
The leader however says, he has contacted other companies to invest 15 billion in the project and out of that, 40% will remain in the country. A move widely applauded by his Citizens.
