The Demise of arguably the greatest footballer in history Pele has left the world in shock as messages of consolation and admiration for his legacy keep pouring on various social media platforms. The Brazilian icon remains an inspiration to many footballers most especially those who played with him, against him, or witnessed him play the game. Former indomitable lion Michel Kaham of the 1982 squad attest to this.
” Everybody knows how important he was for the game. As African footballers and black people, we felt proud to have such an iconic player with the same color of skin. He brought something different; his legacy will never die because we will always refer at Pele, speaking of his skills, behavior and the love he shared with everybody. He loved his game and gave all he can give to show that game is performance first. We are sad today because an iconic player is gone, long live the king, he added.
Pele has been described as a football legend who reinvented the sport with his exceptional skills on the pitch by Jules Denis Onana of the 1990 selection.
“He is one of those legends that proved to the nation that football is spectacular. He scored Soo many goals during the world cup and was example of good performance.”
Edson Arantes Do Nascimento known as Pele was a unique professional. Cameroon’s roving ambassador, Albert Roger Milla recounts their working relationship at FIFA as brotherly.
“He was like my brother because we worked together in FIFA. An exuberant Brazilian king of soccer who won a record three World Cups and as standard-bearer of “the beautiful game” was one of the most commanding sports figures of the last century, “he added.
Pele will forever be remembered as a model for past, present, and future footballers.
