Some 450 vulnerable and less privileged persons, have received a huge donation consisting of food and basic necessities from the Yaoundé City Council, in a highly animated ceremony held on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022.
Among the beneficiaries are 100 persons with mental health challenges, being catered for at the Love Village Centre of the Jamot Hospital in Yaoundé, as well as the elderly handicapped and children in distress.
The donation marked the 13th edition of the Yaoundé Solidarity Day (JOSUVY) set aside by the City Council in 2008.
The huge packet also included rice, soap sardine, tomatoes and others basic necessity need.
“The mayor is the father of the town. This day is to show to Yaoundé denizens, that the mayor is there for them and he does not forget anyone. He is there even for the vulnerable,” explained Melingui Essomba Sylvie, Technical Adviser No. 3 and representative of the City Mayor at the ceremony.
The items were handed out in response to over 1000 individual and group requests received by the city council. The solidarity gesture, is similar to last year’s where 750 vulnerable and less privileged persons, among whom were 100 facing mental health challenges, were gifted by the Yaoundé City Council.
