Cameroon’s 2023 finance bill stands at six thousand three hundred and forty five billion. The amount was revealed during the plenary session of the Senate,devoted to the scrutiny of the 2023 finance bill.
During the sitting,some major adjustments were made,amongst which is the increase in prices of fiscal Stamps and automobile stamp Duty,from 33-100%.
Owners of vehicles with 2 to 7 horsepower (CV), who paid the automobile stamp duty at 15,000 FCFA, will now pay 30,000 FCFA, an increase of 100%. For those who have vehicles from 8 to 13 HP, whose sticker price was set at 25,000 FCFA in 2022, will now pay 50,000 FCFA, an increase of 100% as well.
For drivers of vehicles with 14 to 20 HP whose sticker cost 50,000 FCFA in 2022, they will pay 75,000 FCFA in 2023, an increase of 50%. This increase is also observable for vehicles of more than 20 CV whose sticker price is now 200,000 FCFA against 150,000 FCFA previously, an increase of 33.3%.
This increase does not concern public transport vehicles for people and goods.
This has however sparked reactions amongst vehicle owners .
“Cameroonians have not been able to enjoy basic facilities for the past years,and now prices of windscreen licence have increased we need to revisit our laws”.mr Nde Lucas reacts.
For the record, the car stamp duty has been collected since 2017 by insurance companies, when taking out or renewing the compulsory third-party liability insurance.
