The Canadian Government have announced that they will be receiving 1.4 million migrants in 3 years to address labor shortage in the country. According to the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and citizenship Sean Fraser, the migrants will have to work in the health, construction and engineering sector which has the highest need for labor.
“Most of those new arrivals will be what are known as economic immigrants, who will be expected to fill some of the roughly 1million jobs that are currently empty across various sectors of the economy” says Sean Fraser.
He equally added that, this year’s immigration levels plan will help businesses find the workers they need, set Canada on a path that will contribute to the long-term success, and allow Canada make good on key commitments to vulnerable people fleeing violence war.
Last year, Canada welcomed over 405,000 newcomers. The Government is however continuing that ambition by setting targets in the new levels plan of 465,000 permanent residents in 2023, 485,000 in 2024 and 500,000 in 2025.
Immigration plays a key role in Canada’s labor supply, accounting for 84 percent of the growth in the total labor force during the 2010’s according to statistics Canada.
Canada is one of the top destinations of Cameroonian Youths who relocated due to the ongoing conflict in the two Anglophone Regions.
With the high rate of unemployment in Cameroon, these move by the Canadian Government will help curb the rate of unemployment in the country, and give Cameroonian Youths the opportunity to search for greener pastures.
