Two Nigerian Priest, three Cameroonian Priest, a cook, little girl, Nun, and an assistant Catechist kidnapped at the St Mary Catholic Church in Nchang Mamfe by separatist fighters have been freed atlast.They were released in a village in Nigeria called Boki village once there, they reported to the priests who arranged a bus for them.
This comes several days after a video went viral on the social media, with the kidnapped pleading to the Catholic Church to come to their rescue.In the 1minute video, the kidnapped in tears described their present state as desperate. They however insisted that if nothing is done, majority of them might return in difficult conditions.
The Roman Catholic church aware of their plight planned for their freedom, with some forces of law and order who carried out an operation on october 21st which finally led to their freedom, reliable sources told African stringers.
Meanwhile at the Mamfe Diocese a steady flow of relatives, friends and well wishers have been visiting some of the Christians encouraging them to have faith in the lord, while medical assistance is being given to them.
«They were asking for a ransom of 60 Million CFA FRS » one of the kidnapped who decided to be anonymous told African Stringers.We were brutally tortured and starved, we went days without food and water,the crisis is real, she added».
The Catholic Church says church buildings, schools and hospitals owned by churches are regularly attacked by armed men.Since the crisis began in 2016, Clergy have been soft targets of kidnappers, torturers and gunmen.
They have however sent a strong warning saying the church is neutral and no one has the right to target men and women of God.
