Two Nigerian Priests,three Cameroonian Priests, one cook, a nun , a little girl and assistant catechist kidnapped at the St Mary Catholic Church in Nchang Mamfe by separatists fighters, have appeared in a video pleading to the Bishop and the Government for their release.
The kidnapped said they are mostly Christians of the St Mary Church, so are pleading on the Catholic Church to come to their rescue.
In a one minute video, the captives looked sick and weary as they have been living in very desperate conditions.
« So far it is not easy, if you look at us you will see that we are not happy. It is about one month now and we have been denied of our freedom, we are sick », they added. We are tortured daily please our lord help us » they stressed.
The Arch Bishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya, President of the Episcopal Conference of Cameroon however said, paying abductors in Cameroon would set dangerous precedent so he won’t pay a dime to the kidnappers.
Bishop Aloysius Fondong of the Mamfe Diocese blamed young men from the Nchang Village of having joined separatists fighters, Aleteia reported.
The kidnapping occured when about 30 armed persons entered Nchang and set the St Mary’s Church ablaze. They are however demanding the said sum of 60 Million cfa frs.
