The Ruler of Nso Paramount tribe, Paramount Fon of Bui His Majesty Sehm Mbinglo 1 has passed a royal decree creating a team to ensure a safe return of the Ngonnso’ to its rightful place.
According to the royal decree, the commission established shall function as part of the intergovernmental committee for the restitution of Ngonnso’ from Germany. They will equally ensure bilateral negotiations between Cameroon and Germany
Given the importance of this sacred statue, the team established will equally have as duty submit proposals to the government for mediation.
The team which has as Chairman Emeritus Professor Verkija Fanso, assisted by Dr Tardze Adamou Mbiydzela and Yuyun Clement will ensure fostering of a public information campaign on the real nature, extent and scope of the problem of the restitution of Ngonnso’ to Nso’.
They shall also design a pre- and post-restitution programme of activities and ensure the contruction of the Nso’ palace museum to host Ngonnso’.
It is important to note that this colonial relic was stolen by colonial officer Kurt Von Pavel in 1903 and after several years outside its hometown, it will finally be returned. This will be a great moment for the people of Nso’ reasons why the Fon issued a royal decree to create the restitution committee of Wirfon to lead the restitution process of Ngonnso’, an irreplaceable cultural and spiritual heritage of fundamental importance lost as a result of colonial occupation of Nso’ by the Germans.
