It is now official that French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Cameroon on invitation of the Head of State President Paul Biya.
This will be the first time that french president will be visiting the country since he was appointed.
Since the visit was announced, Cameroonians have been speculating his mission to Cameroon. While some say his brief stay will be to address the ongoing food crisis in the country, others are of the opinion that his visit is to strengthen cooperation ties between the two countries.
Objectives of Emmanuel Macrons visit
Looking at the agenda, one of the major objectives of the presidents visit to Cameroon is to solve the food crisis in the country partly caused by the crisis in Ukraine.Cameroon relies on Ukraine for 60 percent of its wheat imports. The war has caused the price of a 50-kilogram bag of wheat to climb from $35 to $60, an amount the government says a majority of the hungry people cannot afford.
The Cameroonian government blames the war for a 15 to 30 percent increase in the price of staple food items, especially wheat, maize, sorghum and rice widely consumed in areas along the northern border with Nigeria and Chad.
So hopes are however high that french president will look at ways on how to resolve the food crisis in the country.
Another reason behind his visit is to look at ways on how to end the Anglophone crisis in the country ,which edges towards its 7th year and still unresolved.
Possible ways on how to mark the continuity and constancy of the commitment of the president of the republic,in the process of renewing the relationships with the African continent will be on the lime light.
From Cameroon,he will head to Benin and Guinea Bissau.
